[Why are there two Naesalas standing next to each other in quiet conversation? Naesala (either) seems to have mostly accepted the situation.]

[The other Naesala, who hadn't spoken, rolls up his left sleeve. There seems to be nothing unusual about his arm, but the current Naesala stares in shock. Slowly, he rolls up his own sleeve on the same arm, to reveal this marking.]

It's... it's gone on your arm. The Blood Contract is gone in my own lifetime. Kilvas is free.

[After saying that, Naesala collapses to his knees, trembling with suppressed emotion.]

[The future Naesala seems preoccupied with the walls and furnishings of the castle.]

[Naesala is a little more composed when she gets there. He sits on his bed, waiting patiently, while the future Naesala - distinguishable by his rolled up sleeves - wanders about the room.]

[Who would have thought that a stoic woman like Rose was so energetic as a child? The child starts tugging on future Naesala's hand, giggling.] Let's go let's go!

[With a wide smile, future Naesala leads the younger Rose out of the room. The other Naesala watches them go.]

A previous king of Kilvas, not long before me, signed a contract with a senator of Begnion. He did it for power, and soon began to break the terms of that contract.

Then people started dying. On the first day, one person died. On the next, two. Then three. This contract, that can be invoked whenever Begnion wants it and puts Kilvas under their complete control, is called the Blood Contract. That king had to beg the senators to stop the deaths - they did so, after the hundredth day. By that time, almost all of the king's inner circle had died, including his wife and children.

No one knows how to end a Blood Contract. If I want to protect my people, I can't go against Begnion's wishes.

[She listens quietly, not wanting to interrupt him until he was finished.]

It is a sword hanging over your head and your kingdom....

Begnion has ears everywhere, even in Kilvas. Very few people know about the danger that we're in.
